ISLAMABAD: President Asif Ali Zardari said Saturday that as President of Pakistan he always took decisions in the interests of the country and nation.
Speaking at a dinner he hosted for the staff and officers of the Aiwan-e-Sadr here, the President said as against those who usurped powers, he devolved his powers voluntarily to the Parliament.
President Zardari said he was glad to leave his office with dignity and honour on completion of his term.
He praised the services of the staff and officers of the Presidency during his stint as President.
“We all worked in the Presidency towards a single goal of serving the nation,” he remarked.
President Zardari said now he looks forward to working in other capacities in his party as well as for younger generation, adding, the eventual goal was to serve Pakistan and its flag.
The President also expressed his good wishes for the staff and officers of the Presidency.
Earlier, Secretary of the Aiwan-e-Sadr, Nasreen-ul-Haq presented a “document of sentiments” from the staff and officers of the Presidency to the President.
She also read out the document, in which the staff and officers of the Aiwan-e-Sadr expressed their appreciation for President Zardari for his services to the country and nation.
The document particularly noted President Zardari’s strong dedication and conviction towards strengthening democracy, which for the first time in the country’s history ensured smooth transition of power from one elected government to another one.
