PPP, ANP spurn Altaf’s demand for new provinces

KARACHI: Sindh Information Minister Sharjeel Inam Memon said the division of Sind cannot be accepted at all; Awami National Party (ANP) also bristled at the suggestion of carving out more provinces in the country.

It should be mentioned here that Muttahida Quami Movement (MQM) Chief Altaf Hussain demanded the government to consider making more provinces in the country or administrative units for equitable distribution of national resources and to remove sense of deprivation among different ethnic groups.

Memon noted every province is independent in its own affairs, adding the people of Sindh do not favor division of their province and never will allow this to happen.

The ANP spokesman Zahid Khan also remarked the time is not apt for such a proposal as this will spark more chaos and disintegration in the country.

Tehreek Sooba Hazara Chief Baba Hyder Zaman gave his backing to the demand for new provinces. Talking to Mustafa Azizabadi, a member of MQM Coordination Committee on phone, Zaman said the sense of deprivation among the people, is all the more intense as the demand for more provinces in Pakistan was not heeded.
