TANK: Polling is peacefully underway in the National Assembly (NA-25 DIK-cum-Tank) constituency in the by-elections here on Wednesday which was earlier postponed on Aug 22 due to security reasons.
The polling was started at 8am and will continue till 5pm without any break.The army, FC, district administration and Police have been deployed at sensitive and highly sensitive polling stations.
People in large number are coming to polling stations to exercise their
right of franchise in a free and transparent manner.Big queues of voters are also being seen in premises of polling stations waiting for their turn. However, the turned out of voters was comparatively low in the first two hours after start of polling.
The seat was fallen vacated by JUI-F Chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman.The
constituency NA-25 comprises of the entire district of Tank and three Tehsils of D.I. Khan Daraban, Kalachi and Paharpur.
As many as, seven candidates are in the run for this seat.However, one-on-one contest is expected between Maulana Asad Mehmood, son of JUI-F chief Maulana Fazlur Rahman and Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI)’s Dawar Khan Kundi.
A local holiday is being observed to ensure that people in large number
come for voting.
The total registered voters in the constituency are 3,66,550.Voters in
the premises of polling stations would also be allowed to cast their votes after 5pm.
The Election Commission has set up 308 polling stations including 77
male, 74 female and 157 combined for 366,550 registered voters including 204,767 male and 161,783 female voters.
In addition to it, 845 polling booths were also set up in these polling stations for facilitation of voters.All the presiding officers have been entrusted the powers of Ist Class Magistrate for the Polling Day.
As many as, 308 Presiding Officers, 846 Assistant Presiding Officers and
846 Polling Officers are supervised the polling process.
