PESHAWAR: Chief Justice Peshawar High Court (PHC) Justice Dost Muhammad has ordered legislation against illegal mobile phone SIMs.
Speaking during hearing of the case regarding sale of illegal SIMs, Justice Dost Muhammad said that SIMs were being sold like grocery and there was no system of check and balance.
He said that country in the grip of terrorism and extremism while cellular companies were out to earn dollars.
The CJ PHC said cellular companies should mend their ways otherwise court would have to cancel their licenses.
Justice Dost Muhammad said that a single person has more than 50 SIMs and about a million Afghan SIMs are being used in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) only.
DG Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) told the court the talks with National Database Registration Authority (NADRA) regarding closing the illegal mobile phone connection were underway.
The CJ PHC remarked that NADRA itself was in crisis what can it do in this regard. He urged for legislation to resolve the issue.
