PHC CJ summons PTA chairman, Telecom companies CEOs over sale of unregistered SIMs

PESHAWAR: Chief Justice of Peshawar High Court (PHC) Justice Dost Muhammad Khan on Friday took notice of easy availability of unregistered SIMs in the province.

“Vegetable is difficult to purchase, but SIMs are easily purchasable,” Justice Dost Muhammad Khan observed while taking notice of the illegal mobile SIMs abundance.

“Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) and federal organiaations are not ready to take any action against unregistered SIMs,” he said.

The PHC chief justice summoned the PTA chairman, chief executive officers of telecom companies and chief secretaries to explain the whole situation.

He said unfortunately corruption was rampant in Pakistan and there was no law for sale and purchase of SIMs. He said the extortionists harass people with dozens of SIMs, while the concerned authorities did not have any record in this connection.

The law enforcers have repeatedly said that unregistered SIMs are the main tool of terrorists and criminals across the country. After the use of a SIM, the criminals used to discard it and move over to any other connection. This has made the arrest of terrorists and criminals a hard task for the lawmakers.
