KARACHI: Rangers claimed to have killed a suspected gang war member and arrested two of his accomplices during a raid on criminals’ den in Karachi, media reported.
After receiving tip off about gang war elements, Rangers spokesman said the paramilitary Rangers conducted operation in Karachi’s Fisheries area where a shootout between the law-enforcers and criminals took place.
Officials said Shafiq Pathan, an alleged member of Lyari gang war and associated with a political group, was killed in the raid. Two of his accomplices were arrested.
Despite police and Rangers’ operation in Karachi, violence continued to haunt the city, claiming five more lives today.
Police said a former Union Council Nazim of MQM, Rasheed Ahmed, was also among those killed in firing incidents since last night. He was shot dead in Orangi Town area when armed attackers targeted him near a football ground.
Other firing incidents were reported in Chakiwara area of Lyari town, Malir Halt, Guru Mandir and New Karachi areas where four people were gunned down.
Rangers also conducted raids in Pathan Colony of SITE industrial area and arrested seven suspected criminal affiliated with different political groups. Weapons were also recovered from them, Rangers spokesman said.
