KARACHI: A five-member bench of the Supreme Court will resume hearing of the Karachi law and order situation case today.
The larger bench is headed by Chief Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry and comprises Justices Jawwad S. Khawaja, Khilji Arif Hussain, Amir Hani Muslim and Azmat Saeed.
It is relevant to mention here that several city areas are under a strike-like situation on the killing of Zafar Baloch, a spokesman of the outlawed People’s Aman Committee, who was gunned down in a drive-by shooting incident last night.
This hearing is first since early September visit of the Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif to Karachi when the Federal Cabinet decided to launch a targeted operation in the metropolis initiated by the Rangers.
On 30th August, Director General, Sindh Rangers, had told the court that the issue of missing 19,000 arms containers came to prominance many years ago. He said the missing containers were opened during the term of the former minister for ports and shipping.
Babar Ghouri had requested the court; he be allowed to a become party in the case after the report blamed him of the scheme in the arms smuggling issue.
