ISLAMABAD: Brushing aside the news reports about replacements of Sindh Inspector General Police, Federal Information Pervez Rashid on Thursday said that it was chief minister’s discretionary power to appoint the police boss.
He said that it was not federal government’s domain to appoint police IG. He refused to give any deadline for bringing peace in Karachi. However, he said that law and order situation would gradually improve in the city.
He parried a question whether the government had addressed the Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) reservations, saying that no party had any reservation.
The information said that the federal government would play its constitutional role in maintaining peace in Karachi and would extend its cooperation to the PPP-led provincial government in this regard.
