Rains continue to play havoc; death tally rises to 20

LAHORE/PESHAWAR: Stormy rains lashed Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Punjab and wrought havoc in several cities killing at least 20.

Collapse of a rooftop killed an eight-year old girl in Lahore area of Sabzazar Yousuf Nagar. A 35-year man Shahid Jan was killed in the same incident in Bhekaywal village.

A five-year child died of electrocution in Mustafa Abad.

Abdus Sattar’s wife and his adolescent son and daughter were killed when rooftop of their house crumpled on them in Faisalabad’s Jhang Bazaar. According to the Rescue sources, the building was already in precarious condition.

District Coordination Officer Najam Shah said the district administration also issued notice in this regard; but, the impoverished parents could not relocate to safety and stuck to the insecure building. The house rooftop collapsed on them in the afternoon leaving the three inmates dead. The bodies have been shifted to Allied Hospital.

Heavy precipitation killed two women in separate mishaps of roof crashes in Faisalabad area of Chak Jhumra and Kurianwala.

Another woman died in rain-triggered roof cave-in in Pasroor.

A girl lost her life and five children sustained injuries in rain-related accidents in Rajanpur area of Hajipur.

Driving rains caused roof of a house to disintegrate in Haripur area of Changi Bandi, killing four people.

A woman and her daughter were killed in roof collapse accident in Kirk area of Sordag.

At least three people including a woman and her daughter were killed in Sheikhupura areas including Qazikot.

A 14-year boy lost his life in electrocution near Fawwara Chowk in Burewala.
