Anjuman-e-Taraqqi-e-Urdu delegation calls on President-elect

KARACHI: A representative delegation of Anjuman-e-Taraqqi-e-Urdu led by its President Aftab Ahmed Khan called on President- elect Mamnoon Hussain at the State Guest House here on Wednesday and felicitated his on his election as the President, official sources said.

The members of the delegation including Dr. Javed Manzar, Yawar Mehdi, Mumtaz Ahmed and Fatima Hasan drew the attention of the President-elect towards the hurdles in promotion of Urdu language.

They said despite Urdu being the national language, it could not be accorded the status of our official language.

The delegation emphasised on taking steps for upgradation of Urdu to a national language, so that the vacuum felt by majority of people in usage of the two languages could be overcome.

The delegation also drew attention of the President-elect to the lack of facilities and the problems being faced by the Anjuman.

The President-elect assured that hurdles in the way of promotion of Urdu would be resolved and measures would be taken for its up gradation.
