KARACHI: The old Local Bodies System of 1979 has been completely restored in Sindh after the tenure of the local governments’ interim system came to an end, media reported Tuesday.
According to the notification issued by the provincial government, institutions of Town Municipal Administration and the offices of town municipal officers have been abolished across the province, as their interim term came to an end on June 30.
All Deputy Commissioners now will act also as the District Municipal Commissioner.
According to Secretary Local Bodies Ali Ahmed Lond, the government did not extend the interim system; hence, it stands as null and void.
Under the new system, all 16 towns will be merged in five district municipal corporations; while Bin Qasim and Gadap Town will have a separate district council.
All deputy commissioners will now act also as district municipal commissioners. Sukkur, Hyderabad and Larkana will have Municipal Corporations; while, 324 town committees have been restored across the province.
