Militants destroy Quaid-e-Azam’s Ziarat residence

QUETTA: Unidentified militants hurled hand grenades at the Quaid-e-Azam Residency in Ziarat Balochistan in the early hours of Saturday, in the result of attack, the historical building collapsed, where founder of Pakistan Muhammad Ali Jinnah spent the last days of his life.

In the attack, a policeman guarding the residence also died.

According to a police official, four militants riding on two bikes rode towards the building and hurled hand grenade at the historical structure, and escaped immediately.

“All old memorials inside the residency have been destroyed,” he said.

He said memorial chairs, beds, and historic photographs of the founder were burnt to the ground in the resulting fire.

Police officials also added that  the wooden structure of the house had been burnt down, however, the exterior concrete structure was still intact.

Bomb disposal squad also claimed to have defused six more bombs planted inside the residency.
