Jaipur: Time and again, character actors from Hindi cinema have complained of step-motherly treatment. And their grudges hold true, for they do not get due respect and support that they are supposed to.
Shrivallabh Vyas, who we have seen playing character roles in films (‘Sarfarosh’, ‘Lagaan’, ‘Satta’, ‘Yaarana’, ‘Dil Bole Hadippa’ etc) is in the ICU of a hospital in the city.
According to Vyas’ friend, the actor has been suffering from health problems since the last four years. The National School of Drama alumnus apparently fainted in the washroom, and was found lying in a pool of blood the next morning. He had to be operated up on, following which he suffered a paralytic attack.
His wife and daughters have been running from pillar to post to make ends meet and pay the medical bills.
Talking to a tabloid, Shobha, wife of Vyas said, “CINTAA (Cine & T.V Artistes Association) has done nothing for us. When I applied for help, Arun Bali from CINTAA offered a nominal amount of Rs 10,000. I politely declined it as it was too meagre and there was no point in being obligated to anybody for that kind of money.”
Vyas’ family had to relocate to Jaisalmer from Mumbai due to financial constraints.
Reportedly, Aamir Khan has been lending financial help to the family. He is also believed to have visited the ailing actor while he was shooting in Jaipur for ‘Peekay’.
Vyas is popular for his character – Ishwar – Gracy Singh’s father in the Oscar nominated film ‘Lagaan’.
