ISLAMABAD: The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) has summoned 24 former parliamentarians on Friday to re-verify their degrees cleared earlier by the commission.
The parliamentarians have been summoned in light of the directives issued by Supreme Court of Pakistan, said a spokesman of ECP while talking to APP.
He said the names of 27 former parliamentarians holding fake degrees had been given clean chit by a joint committee of Higher Education Commission and ECP few months ago. Out of these three parliamentarians have already died.
The names of these 27 former parliamentarians had been included in the list of 54 parliamentarians, whose degrees had been declared fake or invalid by the HEC.
The Supreme Court of Pakistan has directed action against 27 cleared parliamentarians in compliance with the orders of SC – now the parliamentarians have been summoned on April 5.
The names of 27 parliamentarians are Shafique Ahmed Gujjar, PP-68,Rubina Irfan PP-reserve, Nawazada Tariq Magsi PB 32, Nawabzada Muhammad Akbar, Senator (Balochistan), Gul Muhammad Lot, Senator (Sindh), Ms Shumaila Rana, PP-Reserve, Dr Israr Hussain, candidate for Senate, Ms Rubina Khan, PP- reserve, Syed Ameer Ali Shah Jamot, NA 221, Ghulam Sarwar Sial, PS-35, Lt Col (r) Shujait Ahmed PP-136, Israrullah Khan, Senator (Balochistan), Mukesh Kumar, PS-reserve, Rana Ejaz Ahmad Noon, PP-209, Petanber Sewani, PS-reserve, Bashir Ahmad Khan MPA, PS-56, Wasim Afzal Gondal PP- 119, Ms Samina Khawar Hayat, PP-reserve, Mir Mohabbat Khan Mari, Senator (Balochistan), Seemal Kamran, MPA PP-reserve.
Mir Nadir Magsi, PS-40, Ms Rehana Yahya Baloch,Senator (Balochistan), Haji Muhammad Omer Gorgaje, MNA (NA- 260), Dewan Syed Ashiq Hussain, (NA 153).
Three former parliamentarians including Gulistan Khan PF-69,Wali Muhammad (Senator Balochistan) and Maulvi Obaidullah, (PF -61) had died.
