PTI officially alloted ‘Bat’ as election symbol

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Tehreek e Insaf (PTI) has officially allotted ‘Bat’ as the symbol for upcoming general elections 2013.

Party sources told AAJ news that the symbol depicts ‘determination’, patience , confidence and bravery.

PTI earlier demanded Tarazoo (Balancing scale) but due to contrast with Jamaat e Islami it applied for Bat and Ball symbol.

During an important meeting of election commission of Pakistan (ECP) on Tuesday, several parties were given election symbols.

The Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) was given their usual electoral symbol of “kite”.

Pakistan Muslim League – Quaid (PML-Q) given “cycle”, Jamaat-i-Islami “scale”, Awami National Party “lantern”, PML-Functional “rose”,

PML-N “tiger” and Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam (JUI-F) was allotted “book”.

Dr Abdul Qadeer Khan’s party Tehreek-e-Tahaffuz-e-Pakistan was given a “missile” as its election symbol.

The symbol “arrow” has not been allotted to any party yet and the final decision about its allotment will be taken on March 25.

The allotment of symbol to former ruling Pakistan People’s Party of President Asif Ali Zardari was deferred over controversy.

A PPP leader Samsam Bukhari asked for the party’s old symbol ‘ arrow’ however an old party leader Ms. Naheed Khan claimed that she should be allotted the symbol as she is leader of the PPP.

Naheed Khan has served as political secretary to slain PPP leader, Benazir Bhutto until her assassination in 2007. Also Ghinwa Bhutto, widow of Murtaza Bhutto, the slain brother of Benazir Bhutto, applied for changing its party’s name from People’s Party (Shaheed Bhutto) to “Pakistan People’s Party.”

The Election Commission asked all 136 political parties which have applied for Election Symbols to send their representatives for allotment of election symbols.
