Peshawar: Blast at Jail road kills 5, injures 27


PESHAWAR: A bomb was exploded outside the Peshawar Judicial Complex at Jail Road killing five and wounded over 27 people including three policemen and two lawyers, reported AAJ news on Monday.

The area was later cleared after an hour. Our correspondent reported that, the injured includes two lawyers one was a woman identified as Kulsoom Azam and five policemen. The injured were rushed to Lady Riding hospital.

Hospital sources said that, the number of casualties was expected to rise.

Firing was also reported following the blast. The intensity of blast was not yet determined.

Police have cordoned off the area and people are told to stay away from the site of the blasts as firing was continued.

Information Minister Mian Iftikhar Hussain told AAJ news that “Several gunmen attacked the complex in the city of Peshawar, including a suicide bomber who blew himself up”.

He said the attackers may have been trying to free militant colleagues jailed on the premises.

Army has been called on to control the situation.

Our correspondent Farzana Ali said that the provincial judicial complex lies some 1km from the central jail where Shakeel Afridi is kept in detention.

Moreover, the area is highly sensitive located near the Core Commander house, Governor House and Peshawar Central Jail.
