NOWSHERA: A high intensity blast hit Jalozai camp near Muhajir Bazaar killing atleast 12 people and wounded scores other on Thursday.
Many of the injured were said to be critical, reported AAJ news.
Our correspondent said that, Bomb disposal squad told him that at least 30-35 kilograms of explosives planted in a car were detonated using remote control.
The explosion occurred during the registration of displaced families of country’s tribal areas before the regular distribution of food items at the Jalozai camp.
Initially the injured were shifted to Nowshera city hospital. Those who were critical are being transferred to Peshawar Lady Riding hospital. Around 14 injured were shifted to Lady riding hospital so far.
Rescue teams have been dispatched, while police and LEAs have cordoned off the area.
Fuad Khan, police official responsible for security of the camp, said, “The bomb exploded in a car parked near the administration office where refugees had lined up to get ration and new arrivals were being registered.”
“Several camps in the vicinity of administration office were also ripped off by the bomb blast,” Khan told AFP.
District police chief Mohammad Hussain gave the casualty figures. “The casualties might rise as it was a huge blast,” he told AFP.
