German car sales hit the skids

FRANKFURT: New car registrations in Germany, a key measure of demand in one of the most crucial sectors of Europe’s top economy, fell sharply in February, official data showed on Monday.

Some 228,004 cars were registered last month, a drop of 10.5 percent compared to the same month in 2012, according to the official KBA agency.

Over the first two months of the year combined, 392,773 cars were registered, 9.6 percent fewer than in the same period a year earlier, the agency said in a statement.
