Disgruntled Naheed Khan files for a ‘New PPP’

KARACHI: Disgruntled PPP leader Naheed Khan filed an application in the Election Commission, seeking registration of her separate party with the name of Pakistan Peoples’ Party (PPP).

Naheed Khan, an aide of former prime minister Benazir Bhutto, has applied in the election commission for registration of a new political party with the name of Pakistan People’s Party.

Naheed Khan accompanied by scores of political workers submitted an application in the election commission given her name as the party’s president and Fayyaz Khan as secretary general and the names of eight other party officials. She requested for allotment of ’sword’ as election symbol for her party. She says that the PPP is the real party of Shaheed Bhutto’s workers.

She told media persons that there is no registered party in the commission with the name of PPP. The other party registered in the ECP bears name of Pakistan People’s Party Parliamentarians (PPP), whose President is Makhdoom Amin Fahim.

Ms Khan drew media attention toward President Zardari’s statement, in which he said that PPP was an NGO, not a political party.

She said that it was her right to seek registration of the PPP to keep the philosophy of Shaheed Zulfikar Ali Bhutto and Benazir Bhutto alive.

She also submitted details of her intra-party elections; according to which Naheed Khan is President and Fayyaz Khan is the General Secretary. Naheed Kahn said she has applied for the election symbols of arrow and sword.
