Deadlock over selection: Last day to choose interim Premier


ISLAMABAD: The final day to elect the interim premier has arrived amid the government and opposition parties failed to end deadlock, reported AAJ news.

They both have the deadline of 12 tonight. After that, The process for selection of a caretaker prime minister will go to a parliamentary committee if the name would not be finalized until today.

From Pakistan Muslim League-N, Justice (R) Nasir Aslam Zahid and Rasool Baksh Palejo are the nominees for caretaker PM while PPP would not step down from their nominees that is, Ishrat Hussain and Justice (R) Hazar Khan Khoso.

Meanwhile, the PML-N has finalised four names from the opposition side for the eight-member bipartisan panel.

“We will send the names to National Assembly Speaker Dr Fehmida Mirza after Monday midnight or Tuesday,” PML-N spokesman Said.

He said Leader of the Opposition in the National Assembly Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan had finalised the names.

According to reports, Muslim League-Nawaz has been considering names of Khuwaja Asif, Zahid Hamid, Ishaq Darm Khuwaja Saad Rafique, Pervez Rasheed, Ayaz Sadiq and Raja Zafarul Haq to represent the opposition in the parliamentary committee. However the final decision would be taken by party chief Nawaz Sharif.

Meanwhile, Chaudhry Shujaat Hussain, Farooq H. Naek, Khurshid Shah and Ghulam Ahmed Bilour will represent the government in the committee.

An eight-member bipartisan parliamentary committee would then decide within three days as to who will be the interim prime minister.

It is to mention here that PPP and PMLN have dropped two names includes Hafeez Sheikh and Justice (R) Shakir ullh Jan respectively.
