CJP takes suo motu notice of the bomb blast in Abbas Town

ISLAMABAD: Chief Justice of Pakistan Mr. Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry on Monday took notice of the carnage where at least 45 people died and other 150 were injured in a huge explosion that ripped through a neighborhood called Abbas Town in Karachi on Sunday.

The attention of the Chief Justice was drawn by a written note which came in through the Registrar office and read “ the law enforcement agencies and other government officials did not reach the venue of the blast in time for the rescue operation, due to their presence in a private function, where they were busy providing security/protocol to higher-ups.”

Taking notice of the incident the Chief Justice of Pakistan, Mr. Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry ordered that the issue be put up in Court on Wednesday in Karachi.

“This being a major disaster, causing 45 deaths and wounding 150 others with enormous loss/destruction to property, is a serious violation of fundamental rights, guaranteed under Articles 9, 14, 23 and 24 of the Constitution.” said the Chief Justice.
