Australia struggle against India with 231-8

Australia made 231 for eight on the first day of the fourth and final Test against India here at the Feroze Shah Kotla Stadium on Friday.

Australia won their fourth consecutive toss of the Border Gavaskar Trophy and elected to bat first under Shane Warne who was captaining the Australian side in place of the injured Michael Clarke.

They made a disastrous start losing David Warner at the score of only four runs.

However, Ed Cowan (38) and Phillip Hughes (45) made recovery adding 67 but later Australia were losing wickets at regular intervals and ended the day at 231-8.

Other main contributors were Steven Smith (46) and Peter Siddle (47 not out)

For India, off-spinner Ravichandran Ashwin captured four wickets for 40 while left-arm spinner Ravindra Jadeja and seamer ishant Sharma claimed two wickets each.

India lead the series 3-0 after convincing wins in Chennai, Hyderabad and Mohali.
