Action to be taken against officials disrupting elections: Secretary ECP

ISLAMABAD: Secretary Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) Ishtiaq Ahmed Khan on Saturday said that ECP would take action against officials involved in irregularities and damaging the election process.

Talking to APP, he said that ECP would take all possible steps to ensure free, fair and transparent elections in the country. Khan said ECP had established a cell comprising officials of National Database and Registration Authority (NADRA), Federal Board of Revenue (FBR), Higher Education Commission (HEC), National Accountability Bureau (NAB) and State Bank of Pakistan for the scrutiny of the candidates.

The Secretary said the commission with the help of NADRA has prepared error-free voters lists first time in the history of the country.

The Secretary ECP said Chief Election Commissioner Fakruddin G.Ibrahim has fully committed to ensure free and fair election in all the provinces of the country.

Replying to a question, he said it was welcoming that the political leadership of Balochistan had agreed to contest the elections. He added that the Election Commission would soon visit Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Sindh and Punjab provinces and to devise security plan for the elections.

He said ECP has constituted 400 teams to monitor election expenditures by the candidates and political parties.
