Pakistan capable of offering challenge to South Africa: Misbah

KARACHI:  Captain Misbah-ul-Haq believes that his Pakistan team was capable of offering challenge to formidable South African team during the upcoming tour.

“This is an important series for us and we are looking forward to give our best,” he told reporters at National Stadium here on Friday after his team won the President’s Trophy by beating Habib Bank Ltd in the final.

“Winning and losing is a part of the game. But our team got the potential and capability to offer a challenge to South Africa,” he commented.

“I can assure you that Pakistan team will fight to its best barring the results of the matches,” he said.

He said Pakistan had beaten world number one team England 3-0 in the Test series in United Arab Emirates last year.He admitted that playing conditions in South Africa will be different from the sub-continent. However he hoped that boys will accept the challenge and perform there.

Misbah-ul-Haq said his team learnt a great deal during the 3- match Test series against South Africa in UAE in 2010 and that will benefit them. “We built our team from 2010 when Pakistan played against South Africa in UAE. It was good learning and motivation for the players and they performed creditably during the series,” he recalled. He did not comment  on the selection, balance and combination of the team saying that it was prerogative of the selection committee. However, he added that selectors have picked some boys on the basis of performances in domestic cricket.

Misbah said he was not bothered about the negative attitude against him and remained fully focused on his game. Commenting on the holding of Pakistan Super League, Misbah said it is a good step and playing of foreign players on Pakistan soil will open the door for return of international cricket back to Pakistan.

He said Pakistan Cricket Board was fully aware of its importance and they are making great efforts to make it a success.
