MQM announces three-day mourning in Karachi

KARACHI: In wake of the murder of Muttahida Qaumi Movement’s (MQM) MPA Manzar Imam, the party has announced three-day mourning and a complete shutter down in Karachi on 18 January Friday, reported Aaj news Thursday.

Meanwhile, the transport, business, schools and other educational institutes will remain shut tomorrow.

The public transport will be closed due to the violent situation in the city, said chairman Karachi transporters Ittehad.

Tensions rose in Karachi immediately after Thursday’s shooting. Many markets closed and people rushed home to avoid any potential violent backlash.

Another source reported that, Imam was earlier escaped an attacked, after which he limited his movement in the city and increased security arrangements.

But he couldn’t managed to escape the second one.

MQM Coordination Committee asked its supporters to remain peaceful.
