LAHORE: The main opposition party Pakistan Muslim League Nawaz (PMLN) has rejected the combination of Bahawalpur and South Punjab for the new provinces, following a bill over ‘controversial’ parliamentary commission on new provinces’.
The two party leaders said on Monday it would continue its efforts for new provinces on the basis of the resolutions unanimously adopted by the Punjab Assembly.
Chief minster Punjab Shahbaz Sharif said that amalgamation of two sections of the province is like a drama, Government is not serious is making the provinces.
Joining the conference, Leader of opposition in the National Assembly Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan said at a press conference that PML-N would seek creation of Bahawalpur and south Punjab provinces through amendments to the bill the government planned to table in parliament for creation of “Bahawalpur Janoobi Punjab”.
The PML-N objects to the composition of the commission and its focus on only one province.
The party wants a national commission to take up the issue of creation of new provinces. He said, the commission should look into the management of resources for the province. The Bahawalpur city would be the capital of new Bahawalpur province added that the assembly will be lies within the city.
During the entire efforts to carve a new province out of Punjab, Sources quoted as saying that, it might create differences among the existing federating units over resources.
