Doctor, four others killed in Peshawar

PESHAWAR: Four people were killed when some unknown gunmen opened fire in a guestroom in the local area of Peshawar early Wednesday.

The incident happened in the village of Badaber where residents found the blood-soaked and bullet-ridden bodies in a house that had been rented by the victims, tribesmen from the tribal district of Khyber.

“Unknown gunmen shot dead four men in Badaber. We suspect they were killed because they were the members of a lashkar (militia) against militants,” senior police official Javed Khan told AFP.

The tribesmen were from the Khyber town of Bara but were living in Badaber and were sleeping when they were shot, Khan said.

There was no immediate claim of responsibility.

Police cordoned off the area and began investigation. Meanwhile The bodies were shifted to a morgue for the post-mortem.

On the other side, Unidentified gunmen shot dead another doctor outside his clinic in Liaqat Bazaar in Peshawar Cantonment late Tuesday, said police.

Dr Shah Nawaz Ali, an eye specialist working as head of the Eye Department at the Lady Reading Hospital, was standing outside his clinic in Liaqat Bazaar when three armed men opened fire, killing him on the spot.

Meanwhile, the doctors and fellow colleagues left their duties to protest over the innocent killing.
