Militant commander, two others dead in bomb explosion: Wana

PESHAWAR: A bomb blast in a vegetable market in Wana killed three individuals including militant commander Moulvi Abbas on Friday.

According to sources, the blast occurred at the office of local Taliban commander Moulvi Abbas’s brother, killing Abbas and two others.

The deceased also included a 9 year old boy who is reported to be the son of Moulvi Abbas.

Sources have stated that the target of the blast was Moulvi Abbas, who had close ties with the Islamic Movement of Uzbekistan (IMU) and was a close aide of senior Taliban commander Nek Muhammad (died in a US drone strike in 2004).

The area was cordoned off following the blast as security forces searched the area for further clues.

Drone crash

According to recent updates, a US drone crashed within same area. According to sources the region where the drone crashed in known as the Qaza Panga area. No conclusive reports have yet been received giving the reason behind the blast.
