3 killed, 31 injured in rocket attack on Peshawar airport

PESHAWAR: Three people are confirmed dead while 31 others are said to be injured of which condition of three persons are highly serious as three rockets fired from an undisclosed location hit the Peshawar International Airport Saturday night, said the Chief Executive Khyber Teaching Hospital (KTH) Dr. Omer Ayub Khan.

He told the reporters that three dead bodies and 31 injured persons have been received by his hospital of which condition of three persons are stated to be critical. The injured people have sustained multiple injuries of bullet and mortar shells, he added.

He said all the dead persons are male and have been identified as Alamzeb Khan Afridi, Enger.Fawad and the name of third person could not be ascertained immediately. The injured included men, women and children.

The report suggests the Peshawar airport is safe. Five rockets have been fired from an undisclosed location of which three mortar shells exploded in the vicinity of the airport and damaged the fence wall.

The terrorists have also fired at the security forces around the airport which was responded by the law enforcers. The airport has been sealed after the incident and all the flights have been diverted to other airports of the country.

Two rockets landed in nearby Board Bazar where some shops were also damaged. People in Board Bazar came out of their houses in panic.

Senior KPK Minister Bashir Ahmed Bilor who rushed to the site said that situation was under control adding that efforts are on to clear the airport. All the injured persons are civilians, Bilour added. (APP)
