Cellphone services to be suspended in different parts of the country

KARACHI: Cellphone services would be suspended within different parts of the country in order to curb terrorist activities within the month of Muharram, sources reported on Friday.


Cell phone services would be terminated within Karachi and Quetta starting from 1 pm today (November 23 2012).  Interior Minister Rehman Malik announced on Friday that cellphone services would be suspended between 1 pm to 12 am on Friday and would continue to do so on the 9th and the 10 of Muharram within Karachi and Quetta.

With respect to motorcycle, pillion riding had been banned within the Quetta while complete prohibition would be imposed with respect to Motorcycle riding within Karachi on the three sensitive days.


Malik also added that the cellphone services along with PTCL’s wireless services  would also be suspended within the federal capital on Friday between 3 pm to 6 pm.


The restriction was also announced by the KPK government earlier when the provincial government stated that cellphone services would be suspended within six districts of the province on 9th and 10th of Muharram. The six districts include Peshawar, Kohat, Mansehra, Dera Ismail Khan, Tank and Haripur. The suspension of mobile phone services would be implemented from 6 am on the 9th of Muharram and would continue till 11 pm, 10th of Muharram.
