PPP, MQM unable to reach consensus over local govt ordinance

KARACHI: Pakistan People Party (PPP) and the Muthaida Qaumi Movement (MQM) were unable to reach consensus over the new local government ordinance late till Wednesday.

The MQM delegation headed by Dr Farooq Sattar when they met the PPP gathering at the CM House.  PPP was represented by Agha Siraj Durrani, Sharjeel Memon, Rafiq Engineer and Pir Mazhar-ul-haq.

Both the parties were unable to commence the negotiation because of unavoidable reasons. The unavailability of PPP’s law minister Ayaz Soomro restricted the parties to discuss the legal points of the issue, hence delaying the issuance of the new local government ordinance.

Both the parties are expected to restart the discussion with respect to the LG ordinance today.
