LAHORE: The Lahore High Court (LHC) on Wednesday deferred President Asif Ali Zardari’s contempt of court case hearing till September 14. The petition filed within the LHC requires President Zardari to vacate the post as co-chairman of PPP while remaining the President of the state.
Advocate Muhammad Azhar Siddique, Judicial Activism Panel’s chairman, had filed the petition against Zardari for concurrently holding the co-chairman’s office while being the President of the state and also indulging in political activities. The applicant plead that this was against an earlier order of LHC’s full bench.
Chief Justice Umar Ata Bandial headed the larger bench of the LHC which delayed the hearing till September 14.
During the hearing, the Court stated that judiciary respected the President’s post and that it would be maintained.
