ISLAMABAD: Pakistan cricket team head coach Dav Whatmore and fielding coach Julien Fountain on Thursday said that they are keen to propel Pakistan to the top of the International Cricket Council (ICC) tables.
“Dav and me both feel that Pakistan is capable of achieving top rated rankings in all formats of the game, and for that we look forward to playing a role in achieving this,” said Fountain.
Julien said he has some targets that they want to achieve before the Twenty-20 World Cup in Sri Lanka in a few months time.
“I am preparing a plan for the players to make them fully equipped for the T20 WC in September. Although my current contact is for 2 years with the PCB, I am also looking towards the World Cup in 2015 in Australia,” he said.
Terming the Bangladesh team’s tour to Pakistan as a great step, Julien said,”Everybody is happy to see international cricket return to the country. Hopefully it is the start of much bigger things to come,” he said.
Julien while praising the Pakistani players said it is great to be working with them. “Pakistani players are not only talented, but have a great mix of good work ethics coupled with determination, amicability and above all pride in their performance,” he said.
Julien further said holding training workshops and coaching sessions for the domestic coaches in Pakistan are really important for the long term development.
“I am keen to start this process as you cannot just coach the top 25 cricketers in the country and leave it at that. You have to get the message out into domestic cricket, into school cricket and specifically to the coaches on the ground. You have to raise the standard across the country,” he concluded.
