Kashif helps SBP to humiliate KB in QAT

Captain Kashif Siddiq captured five wickets with career best show including a hat-trick which saw debutant State Bank of Pakistan (SBP) humiliate fancied Karachi Blues (KB) by an innings and 11 runs in the opening round of Quaid-e-Azam Cricket Trophy at National Stadium here on Saturday.

29-year-old Kashif, known more for his batting display, took five wickets for 14 runs in six deadly overs as formidable KB batting in a dramatic fashion crashed for 113 in 43rd over on the third day in 4-day game.

Slow left arm spinner Hasan Mahmood, who got six wickets for 88 runs in the first innings, grabbed four wickets for 35 runs in 16.5 overs to finish with match haul of ten wickets for 123 runs.

Kashif playing his 108th first class game, got rid of opener Shahzaib Hasan, Javed Mansoor and Tanvir Ahmed on the first, second and third ball of 30th over to achieve his three in row feat. Shahzaib top-scored with 35 in 126 minutes off 90 balls with five boundaries and Wajihuddin made 27 with five boundaries.

Earlier resuming at their overnight score of 295-6, SBP went 377 all out with Adnan Raees missing his maiden double hundred by ten runs. Adnan batted for 419 minutes off 321 ball knock of 190 was studded with 23 boundaries and three sixes

It was another blow for Karachi cricket after they were crashed out in the league rounds in National T20 Cup under Shahid Afridi captaincy a week ago.

Meanwhile, in another match Quetta foughtback but still conceded 79- run first innings lead to Hyderabad on the third day of their 4-day Quaid-e-Azam Cricket Trophy Division-II match at NBP Sports Complex Ground on Saturday.

Replying to Hyderabad’s first innings score of 390, Quetta recovered from 124-4 to score 311 all out in their first innings mainly because of fighting 67 by Atta-ur-Rehman and contribution from late order batsmen.

Atta hoisted one six and struck six boundaries in his 150 minutes stay at the crease. Arun Lal and Nasim Khan both contributed 32 apiece. Pacer Lal Kumar got three wickets for 38 runs in 19.5 overs and leg-spinner Zahid Mahmood claimed three wickets for 90 runs in 26 overs.

By close of play Hyderabad were 54 for the loss of two wickets in their second innings. They are 123 runs ahead with eight wickets in hand.

While, awesome batting display by Saeed Bin Nasir and five wickets haul by Faraz Ahmed Khan helped Karachi Whites to start the 2011-12 season in an emphatic fashion when they defeated United Bank Ltd (UBL) by seven wickets on the penultimate day of their 4-day Quaid-e-Azam Cricket Trophy Division-II tie at UBL Sports Ground on Saturday.

Saeed Bin Nasir, who scored an unbeaten 109 in the first innings followed it with an undefeated knock of 92 to guide Karachi Whites to easy victory after they were set 177 to win.

Right handed Saeed Bin Nasir added 107 runs for the third wicket with Atif Ali Zaidi to set up an easy win. Saeed blasted 17 boundaries in his 130-ball in 163 minutes stay at the crease. Atif struck seven boundaries in his 45.
