Six flights cancelled, 8 delayed due to protest of workers

At least six flights of PIA have been cancelled and eight others delayed at Benazir Bhutto International Airport Islamabad due to strike of some workers of Pilot Association (PALDA) and Aircraft engineers here on Tuesday.

Director General Public Relations PIA Mashood Tajwar told APP that fights operation schedule has been disturbed due to agitation of some workers at Islamabad Airport, adding situation is normal at other airports including Karachi, Lahore and Peshawar.

Various associations of pilots, engineers and other staff are protesting against what they claim an agreement between PIA and Turkish Airlines but denied by the PIA.

“We have not yet signed any agreement with the Turkish Airlines and all allegations are baseless,” he said.

“Talks are underway with the representatives of various associations of the national carrier to resolve any misunderstanding whatsoever,” he added.

He said PIA management had already invited the association of holding talks to remove their apprehensions.

He called on the protest to end strike as this earned bad name to the national airline and the country.
