No agreement with Turkish Airline: MD PIA

There is no agreement or Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Turkish Airline said Managing Director Pakistan International Airlines Ejaz Haroon.

Talking to a private news channel on Wednesday he declined any agreement or Memorandum of Understanding with Turkish Airline and said, “We are ready for talks with stakeholders to resolve the issue.”

He said Pakistan Airlines Pilots’ Association (PALPA) has some misunderstandings regarding the document despite the fact that the administration has time and again said that there is no agreement between the two airlines.

The MD said the administration cannot take any decision under the pressure of any union, adding that it has to take decision in the interest of its employees.

He said the administration has already sent letter to the unions for negotiation.

To a question he said, the two airlines just signed a ‘Record of Discussion’ (RoD) which is not an agreement.

Haroon said that the RoD was also circulated to the members of board of directors.

PALPA should call off the strike in the interest of the people of Pakistan and come to us for solution of their problems, the MD said.

To another question he said, the strike call of PALPA was an illegal act as only collective bargaining agent (CBA) has the right to give call for strike adding, PALPA is not CBA.

Ejaz Haroon to a question said, Prime Minister Syed Yusuf Raza Gilani has formed a committee to resolve the issue and efforts are on to settle the problem within shortest possible time.

He said that fights operation schedule was disturbed on Tuesday due to agitation of some workers at Islamabad Airport, but situation remained normal at other airports including Karachi, Lahore and Peshawar.

Talks are underway with the representatives of various associations of the national carrier to resolve any misunderstanding whatsoever, he added.
