The Supreme Court on Monday ordered the arrest of DG Federal Investigation Agency Waseem Ahmed in National Insurance Company Limited (NICL) corruption case.
A three-member bench of the apex court, headed by the Chief Justice Iftikhar Mohammad Chaudhry, was hearing the case of alleged corruption of over Rs. 18 billion in the insurance company.
The court, during the course of hearing, expressed annoyance over the way the investigation had been carried out by the FIA and ordered the arrest of agency’s chief.
DG FIA was charged with giving protection to Ameen Qasim Dada, one of the accused, in his office.
Meanwhile, Zafar Qureshi, Deputy Director FIA told the court that one of the accused in the NICL scam had admitted that he had given huge amount of Rs 220 million to Moonis Elahi, son of former chief minister Punjab Pervez Elahi.
“I will arrest Moonis Elahi,” added Zafar Qureshi.
