Malik Mumtaz Qadri, accused of Salman Taseer’s assassination, was brought before the Anti-Terrorist Court (ATC) in Rawalpindi on Thursday after the decision to move the ATC to Islamabad was revoked.
Earlier, Chief Commissioner Islamabad, citing security reasons, issued notification for moving the ATC to the sector G-7 of the federal capital.
The accused was presented before a senior judge of ATC Akram Awan who cancelled the Chief Commissioner’s order for moving the court.
Judicial Magistrate on Wednesday had handed over Mumtaz Qadri to police for one-day transit remand.
Mumataz Qadri was brought before court of Magistrate Malik Naeem Shaukat.
Although the police requested to court for his 5-day remand, he was sent in this regard only for a single day. A large number of people were present in the court.
