The Pakistan Muslim League Nawaz (PML- N) on Thursday termed the assassination of Punjab Governor Salman Taseer a “tragedy” and declared it the act of an individual.
“There is no doubt that killing of Salman Taseer is a tragedy but it was the act of an individual,” said senior PML-N leader Siddiqul Farooq.
Addressing a news conference here at the party’s central secretariat, he said that accused Mumtaz Qadri had publicly confessed his crime describing its context. Declaring the assassination a “political murder” prior to the completion of investigations was inappropriate.
He was of the view that some leaders of Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) were issuing statements to give political colour to the case.
The PML-N leader requested President Asif Ali Zardari and Prime Minister Syed Yusuf Raza Gilani to stop those PPP leaders who were issuing such statements, which were tantamount to undermine the inquiry being conducted by a judicial commission and a joint investigation team of intelligence agencies.
