Plea to impose emergency in Karachi

Citing deteriorating law and order situation in Karachi, a plea for the imposition of emergency in the city was filed on Friday in Supreme Court.

The plea was filed by advocate Tariq Asad and it maintained that innocent people were being killed and the federal and provincial governments had failed to provide security to the residents of provincial metropolis.

The petitioner also called for the deployment of Army in the port city to curb the growing menace of targeted killings.

The SC should, therefore, direct the concerned authorities to impose the state of emergency in the province and the army should be called to assist the civilian administration under article 245 of the constitution, the petitioner added.
