Pakistan has finalised arrangements to evacuate its nationals from Egypt, if the situation further deteriorates.
Foreign Office spokesman Abdul Basit told APP that the Pakistan Embassy at Cairo was closely monitoring the evolving situation.
“If required, and on the information of the Pakistan embassy at Cairo, an aircraft would be despatched to extract the Pakistani nationals,” he said.
The Pakistan embassy on Sunday asked for a military C-130 aircraft to be on standby for evacuation of its nationals, if the situation in the country further worsens.
The spokesman said there were around 150 Pakistani families; most of whom were living at Cairo and Alexandria and were in touch with the Pakistan Embassy. He said Pakistan was also in touch with other countries in this regard.
Pakistan’s Ambassador to Egypt Seema Naqvi told media that the embassy has provided a list of Pakistani nationals to the Foreign Office, who wish to be evacuated.
Pakistan has also asked its nationals not to travel to Egypt as the situation there was very fluid.
