Kaira terms Taseer’s murder security lapse

Federal Minister for Information and Broadcasting Qamar Zaman Kaira on Wednesday termed the assassination of Punjab Governor Salman Taseer a security lapse.

Briefly talking to mediamen after the funeral prayers of late Salman Taseer at the Governor’s House, he said that the motives behind the murder must be uncovered.

Paying glowing homage to Salman Taseer, Kaira said that Taseer was a political worker of PPP and his murder was a bolt from the blue for the party.

“People like Malik Mumtaz Qadri should not be recruited in the security forces,” he added.

Earlier, Former Federal Minister and MQM central leader Babur Ghauri said that Salmaan Taseer’s assassination was a tragic incident and MQM shared the grief of PPP and Taseer’s family.

He said that Salmaan Taseer was a great politician as well as a well-educated figure.

Babur Ghauri said that the vacuum created by the demise of a seasoned politician like Salmaan Taseer could not be filled.

Terming the loss of Taseer as regrettable, Sindh Chief Minister Syed Qaim Ali Shah said that neither Islam nor PPP government allows the killing of a person for using his right to freedom of speech.

Federal Minister for Education Sardar Aseff Ahmed Ali said that the incident of Taseer’s assassination was lamentable and it reflected that a minority group was airing such sentiments.

The Minister said that few people have been misleading people regarding the Blasphemy law while a Muslim cannot even think of uttering blasphemous remarks.

He said that tendency to allege people of blasphemy was not new adding that people with a similar mindset and agenda issued similar decrees against Quaid-e-Azam, Allama Dr Muhammad Iqbal and Bulleh Shah in the past.

Sardar Aseff said: “we are ready to sacrifice our lives on the honour of Prophet Muhammad (SAW).”

He said that the history of PPP was depleted with sacrifices adding that the nation should not react in haste, observe the situation and decide subsequently who was right or wrong on the issue.
