The Judicial Commission has named Justice Mushir Alam for Chief Justice of Sindh High Court (SHC) in place of Justice Sarmad Jalal Usmani, who has been nominated as a Supreme Court judge.
The decision has been made by Judicial Commission headed by Chief Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry here on Saturday.
The commission will mull over extending the office term of 51 additional judges of higher courts. It has also made a recommendation to regularize nine ad hoc judges of the SHC.
These recommendations will be sent to the Parliamentary Committee on Judges Appointment for further action.
The commission will also discuss the scenario of appointment of SHC’s chief. In LHC 12 judges have completed their contract period and working on interim order of SC.
Justice Tasadduq Hussain Jilani and Justice Nasirul Mulk will for the first time attend the commission meeting. The seat of retired judge vacated after the passage of 19th Amendment and the Chief Justice will nominate the new name in consultation with four fellow judges.
