Judicial inquiry into Taseer murder soon: Kaira

Federal Minister for Information and Broadcasting Qamar Zaman Kaira has said that judicial inquiry of Salman Taseer’s murder would be ordered soon after the investigation team submits its report.

“Salman Taseer’s assassination was a huge tragedy for the PPP,” he said while talking to the media outside late Taseer’s Cavalry Ground residence here Friday.

He said that the Punjab Government must play its due role in the investigation of the murder of a stalwart and constitutional head of the province.

Regarding Nawaz Sharif’s 10-point agenda, Kaira said, that the reservations put forth by the PML (N) Quaid are shared by PPP as well as the leadership of major political parties in the country including PML (Q), ANP and MQM, adding that PPP government would welcome any reforms if the national political leadership wished to do so.

He said that Prime Minister Syed Yusuf Raza Gilani has constituted a five-member committee to hold consultations with PML (N) and other political parties.

About implementation of judiciary’s decisions on various cases including the NRO, Kaira said: “We are not defying the apex court but have filed a review petition as per the law and the constitution of the country.”

The federal minister dispelled the impression that political parties were involved in the law and order situation in Karachi, adding that political parties work for political gain and they had nothing to do with the killings of innocent people.
