Eight persons died and 19 others injured as passenger bus fell in deep ditch on Mardan road in Charsadda district on Monday, police said.
Three more victims expired of their critical wounds at Peshawar’s Lady Reading Hospital, rising death toll to eight, police and hospital sources said.
The tragic accident occurred when a bus carrying civil secretariat’s employees for Peshawar was plunged into a ditch near Kala Dhair in Charsadda district while overtaking a motorcycle.
Five died instantly and three later expired in hospital and 19 injured. The dead identified are Muhammad Ibrar son of Abdul Razak, Qasim Khan son of Siad Rasan Khan residents of Sir Dheri Charsadda, Diyar Gul son of Gul Akbar Khan, Sardar Akbar son of Akbar Muhammad resident of Mangan, Bakht Mir son of Faqir Gul, Wisal Muhammad residents of Charsada and Gul Nawaz son of Gul Farosh.
The identity of other victim could not be immediately ascertained. The injured were rushed to Lady Reading Hospital where condition of two was stated to be critical. The police and local residents rushed to the spot and started rescue operation.
Chief Minister Khyber Pakthunkhwa Ameer Haider Khan expressed profound grief and sorrow over the tragic road accident.
