Scotland Yard says going door to door to trace Imran’s killer

British police say they’re going door to door in a bid to find out who killed a MQM leader whose death sparked rioting in the south Asian country’s largest city.

Scotland Yard says 50-year-old Imran Farooq was stabbed and beaten to death as he made his way home from work shortly before 5:30 p.m.(1630GMT) on Thursday.

Farooq was a prominent member of the Muttahida Qaumi Movement and news of his death sparked a series of arson attacks in the Pakistani city of Karachi, where the party is the largest member of the city’s ruling coalition.

Farooq has lived in self-imposed exile in the U.K. since he fled Pakistan in 1992.
