Nawaz asks government to address public issues

PML-N Chief Muhammed Nawaz Sharif has asked the government to address real issues faced by the public to give them relief against price hike and energy crisis.

Addressing a press conference here at the CM’s Secretariat on Friday, Nawaz Sharif said few government corporations were getting more than Rs 400 billion public money per year and the government should check this waste of money and spend it for relief to the masses.

He was of the view that talk about change in the country would end if the government took sincere steps to improve the economy and control price hike through good governance.

Nawaz Sharif said that his party would not welcome any dictator in future with replacement of the present democratic government and added that parliament must be given the status of a sovereign body.

To a question, Nawaz said that all NRO beneficiaries should resign from their offices and those who do not resign must be dismissed. He added that his party had opposed the approval of NRO through parliament and wanted the government to accept the Supreme Court’s verdict on it whole-heartedly.

To another question about the Presidential immunity, he said that the Supreme Court would decide the matter and the PML-N would support it.

He was of the view that all issues could be settled properly after reforms in governance.

Nawaz Sharif termed a US court verdict against Dr Aafia Siddiqi deplorable and added that former President Pervez Musharraf should be questioned for handing over her to the US.

Referring the current situation in Indian Held Kashmir, Nawaz said that Kashmir was still a core issue to his party and the Indian government should give the right of self-determination to the Kashmiris.

Earlier, briefing the media about the PML-N’s strategy for rehabilitation of the flood affected, he said it should be top priority of federal and provincial governments and the reconstruction process must start on a war footing.

He said that every affected family should be given Rs 100,000 to construct their damaged houses.

The PML-N has chalked out a comprehensive plan to establish model villages in flood-hit areas where all modern facilities would be provided to the residents, he said.

He said model schools, technical institutes, biogas plants and cattle houses would be constructed in the villages.

Nawaz Sharif said rehabilitation should be expedited to give shelter to the affected before the winter season. The Punjab government he said is organizing a donor conference on September 30, of national and international organizations and a comprehensive rehabilitation strategy would be finalized there, he added.

Senior PML N leaders Iqbal Zafar Jhagra and Zulfiqar Khan Khosa were also present.
