Minister lays emphasis on controlling expenditure

Sindh Finance Minister, Syed Murad Ali Shah, has laid emphasis upon officials of the Department to ensure controlling of expenditure in order to match resources.

Expressing his view at presentation made to him by the Finance Department, he stated that we need to adopt appropriate fiscal measures to ensure that we need the objectives of rehabilitation of flood effective of province without disturbing our development programme as, he added, the government will give priority to re-settle the internally displaced people.

Referring to problems, issues confronted by the Finance Department that were brought to his notice by officials earlier, the provincial Finance Minister held out the assurance that he will hold meetings with Federal finance Minister and with relevant concerned officials to ensure that Sindh get its due funds without any delay.

He also said that in the next Sindh Cabinet meeting he will apprise the Cabinet members of the overall financial position of Sindh Government.

He further said that he aims to make Finance Department working more transparent.

Murad Ali Shah also directed the Secretary Finance Muhammad Siddique Memon to ask Police and Education Department heads to ensure that all those employees of these departments who so far have not been enlisted on computerized official pay roll must sent their complete filled in forms at earliest so that their salary is paid through banks and not manually.

Earlier, in presentation made of resource, budget and of PPP initiative wings by concerned officials the Sindh Finance Minister was apprised of the organizational structure, vision, objective, functions of the section and was informed that during the current fiscal year 2010-11 the receipts would be Rupees 397.1 Billion while expenditure budget will be Rupees 422.3 Billion.

He was further informed that Sindh government is paying Rupees 64.957 Billion to its employees as salary, while till September 23, 2010, a sum of Rupees 268.000 Million has been given for flood relief to 20 district governments of province and to Provincial Disaster Management Authority. This is besides Rupees one billion earmarked and given as per decision of the CCI for Watan Card scheme and a sum of Rupees 1281.000 million funds have been released to Relief Commissioner of the Province.

The meeting was attended amongst others by Secretary Finance, Special Secretary Development, Finance Department, Additional Secretaries Deputy Secretaries and concerned officials.
