Int’l aid vital to rebuild flood-ravaged Pakistan: Nawaz Sharif

PML(N) Quaid Muhammad Nawaz Sharif Thursday said that the recent floods have affected people at large scale saying that the gigantic task of rehabilitation and reconstruction could only be possible with international aid from countries like China.

During a meeting with the newly appointed Chinese ambassador to Pakistan here at his Raiwind residence, he paid glowing tribute to the time-tested Pak-China friendship adding both the countries would discover new dimensions of mutual trust and cooperation based on mutually beneficial cooperation.

Punjab Chief Minister Muhammad Shahbaz Sharif was also present during the meeting.

PML(N) leader admired the generosity of the Chinese people for their substantial singular assistance for the calamity-stricken people as well as an additional assistance of $200 million under the UN global appeal.

Punjab Chief Minister Muhammad Shahbaz Sharif briefed the Ambassador about the devastations caused by the recent floods in Punjab. He said that agriculture sector suffered a loss of Rs 82 billion while one-fifth of standing crops were lost. He said the floods rendered around two million people homeless.Shahbaz Sharif invited the Chinese ambassador to the donors conference to be held on September 30.

The Chinese ambassador said that a team of experts and engineers would soon reach Pakistan to participate in the rehabilitation work.
