Indian lawmakers arrive in Srinagar

A delegation of Indian lawmakers seeking to defuse months of deadly civil unrest in Indian occupied Kashmir (IoK) have arrived in the Himalayan region, a day after 4 more anti-India protesters martyred after being hurt during increasingly demonstrations.

Lawmakers from all major Indian national parties are expected to meet Kashmiri leaders in Srinagar and find ways to address long-standing demands for self-rule or a merger with predominantly Muslim Pakistan.

A police officer said on condition of anonymity because he was not authorized to talk to the media that 3 men hurt during street battles with government forces last week died in hospitals in Srinagar on Sunday.

Also Sunday, the officer said 22-year-old woman was martyred by Indian security forces in the town of Sopore.
